Berni is a Chinese-Australian writer and director who has a minimalistic yet sensory approach to weaving narratives. Her films and motion picture works paint otherwise inexplicable sentiments rooted in the intersectional experiences of queer diaspora, coming of age, nature and Chinese culture. With an ethnographic background and deeply collaborative filmmaking practice, she hopes to invite people into a dreamlike world of reflexive nostalgia that lingers after the cinema.Her narrative short films have been nominated twice in the Dendy Awards for Best Australian Short Film at Sydney Film Festival in 2023 and in 2025 as well as won Best International Narrative Short Film at Shanghai Short Week in 2024.
