Dr. Jonathan ‘Jonni’ Homsey has a deep passion for the arts, beginning with street dance over twenty years ago in Southern California. Born and raised in Hong Kong and the USA, he has since become a leader in artist-led initiatives across dance, theatre, and the visual arts. Originally from the dance crew scene in the naughties in Southern California, he has worked to abstract the form with contemporary dance tools.
His accolades include the 2013 Melbourne Fringe Award for Best Emerging Producer, the 2021 Green Room Award for Best Dance Production for the w*acking film “I Am Maggie,” and the 2024 City of Melbourne Arts & Heritage Collection Resident. He recently completed a doctorate at Queensland University of Technology, where he researched choreographic empowerment strategies focusing on the power of Queer, Black and Brown dances. Jonni is a passionate educator and emerging philosopher casually lecturing across Animation, Dance, Arts Management, and Theatre departments for University of Melbourne since 2016.
